This victory allowed the Thai men's volleyball team to break a three-time consecutive semifinal exit curse, securing a spot in the gold medal match and a chance to compete for the SEA Games championship again after eight years in front of home fans.
Previously, Thailand advanced as the winner of Group A with three consecutive wins, while the Philippines qualified as runner-up of Group B. In the semifinals, South Korean head coach Park Ki-won devised an excellent strategy, with his team playing confidently in both offense and defense, closing the match without dropping a set.
