Thai Womens Volleyball Player Challenges Keyboard Trolls to Show Their Real Faces After Harsh Criticism

A member of the Thai women's national volleyball team responded to netizens and challenged them to use their real photos after receiving vulgar criticism of her performance.

On 5 Jan 2025 GMT+7, "Baitoey" Natthathima Kubkaew, a Thai national women's volleyball player currently playing professionally in Taiwan for the New Taipei City CMFC club, replied to a volleyball fan who posted her photo accompanied by crude criticism.

In the post, the volleyball fan wrote "all skills are terrible," to which Baitoey responded, "Thank you. I did play badly today. However, seeing my photo posted with that caption makes me feel quite bad. If possible, please contact me from your real Facebook account."

She further commented, "No one has contacted me yet. I just want to warn about posting or commenting beyond the bounds of fair criticism. I want to inform everyone to please post or comment with respect for the athletes, not just me. Criticism is acceptable, but it should not be insulting or use vulgar language. If some argue that because this is the volleyball community, harsh criticism is normal and that I have no right to stop it, that’s because many have come to accept insulting athletes as normal and may see this as acceptable. But if the world’s motivation is driven by insults and vulgar words, try experiencing the same treatment yourself. Maybe it will motivate you too."

"Personally, I am not part of that group, but the group is public and often appears in my feed. I see many bad posts. For me, I only ask for respect for all athletes—both national team and others, male and female. Don’t think this is just fun or a joke. Those who post don’t forget what they write, and those who read don’t forget either. P.S. Please stop calling Thailand the ‘Kok’ of Thailand."

Meanwhile, many fans commented on the post to offer encouragement and suggested filing a lawsuit for damages.
