Dominic Szoboszlai Rejects Premature Claims of Arsenal as Premier League Champions, Boasts Real Champions Are Here

Dominic Szoboszlai rejects premature claims that Arsenal are Premier League champions, boasting that the real champions are here.

On 7 Jan 2025 GMT+7, Dominic Szoboszlai, Liverpool midfielder, responded to opinions suggesting Arsenal have already won the Premier League after leading second-placed Manchester City by six points, despite the season still being long. This came ahead of the big match where the "Gunners" host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium in the 21st Premier League round on 9 Jan (night of 8 Jan) at 03:00 GMT+7.

Szoboszlai was asked by Patrick Davidson from Sky Sports whether Liverpool were about to face the "champion team" Arsenal. Szoboszlai replied frankly, "Oh my God, it's still a long way to go. The Premier League isn't easy. You don’t become champions in January. So I don't think we're facing the champions, but rather they are facing the champions. And I think they know this well, just like us. We know Arsenal are among the title favorites this year."

"They are a great team with very good players, but we shouldn’t forget Manchester City or Aston Villa who are also performing very well. So yes, we are not facing the champions, but they are facing the champions."

Currently, Arsenal lead the Premier League by six points over Manchester City after Pep Guardiola's side dropped points with draws against Sunderland and Chelsea last week. However, that gap could shrink to three points before the Liverpool game if City wins against Brighton at Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Manchester City midfielder Rodri expressed a similar view to Szoboszlai, confirming that the title race is far from over following Chelsea’s draw against City on Sunday.
