
Outstanding! View Kulwut makes history by reaching the Malaysia Open 2026 final, becoming the first Thai male singles finalist in 16 years.
On 10 Jan 2025 GMT+7, View Kulwut Wititsarn, the tournament’s 2nd seed and world number 2, showed great strength to beat Jonathan Christie, seeded 4th and world number 4 from Indonesia, in a tough straight-games match 21-16, 21-16.
This victory secured Kulwut’s place in the Malaysia Open 2026 final, marking his first appearance in a Super 1000 final in his career. He also made history as the first Thai male singles player to reach this final in 16 years, since "Superman" Lt. Boonsak Ponsana did so in 2010.
In the final, View Kulwut will face the winner between world number 1 Qi Yuchi of China and world number 3 Anders Antonsen of Denmark, competing for the prestigious early-year championship.
