Witthitanon Comments on Court Conditions Amid Criticism of Dirtiness and Unsuitability for India Open 2026

Witthitanon, Thailand's No. 2 men's singles badminton player, spoke about the court conditions after criticism that it was dirty, substandard, and unsuitable for hosting the India Open 2026.

On 15 Jan 2026, Witthitanon Wititsasan, Thailand's No. 2 men's singles badminton player, opened up after defeating Japanese player Koki Watanabe in the first round of the India Open 2026 about the controversial court conditions concerning cleanliness, poor standards, pollution, and PM 2.5 dust levels.

Witthitanon said, “It’s very exciting to play in such a large arena. Honestly, it’s great—everything is good. Controlling the shuttlecock is a bit challenging, but overall, it’s good.”

“I hope to do my best in this tournament. Last week, I felt quite tired and low on energy, but now my body is better. I will give my all to achieve the best results at the India Open. I think India is a beautiful place, and I have many fans and good friends here. I really enjoy playing in India.”

Witthitanon will play his second match in the round of 16 against Lu Guangzu from China on 15 January at approximately 13:15 local time, live on True Sport 2.

The India Open 2026, a World Tour Super 750 level tournament, is currently being held from 13 to 18 January and serves as a major preparation event for the 2026 World Championships.

Looking back to early 2023, Witthitanon defeated Viktor for the first time at the India Open 2023 before going on to win the World Championship later that year.
