Pause! KitKat has announced the theft of over 400,000 chocolates, totaling 12 tons, from a truck during transit from Italy to Poland. The stolen goods are from the special Formula 1 collection shaped like racing cars that the world has been eagerly awaiting.
On 30 March 2026, a major theft was confirmed involving not gold or cash but the famous KitKat chocolate weighing over 12 tons, equivalent to more than 413,793 pieces, which vanished without a trace during transport in Europe.
This occurred while a truck was transporting products from a factory in central Italy bound for Poland, intended for distribution across Europe. The truck disappeared from tracking systems and lost contact, leading to an investigation that revealed the entire cargo had been stolen.
What caught special attention from international media like The New York Times is that the stolen items were not regular KitKat bars sold commonly, but the "Special Formula 1 Edition." This limited collection was produced in the shape of F1 racing cars, to celebrate KitKat becoming an official partner of the Formula 1 racing series, a collaboration announced in June of last year.
The thieves’ targeting of this particular batch suggests premeditation to sell these "rare" items, eagerly awaited by motorsport fans worldwide, on the black market during the peak of the 2026 F1 season.
Nestlé, the manufacturer, has confirmed the incident and stated it is urgently coordinating with local police to recover the stolen products.
