The Volleyball Association is facing a financial deficit from hosting the 2025 World Championship but affirms its readiness to organize the 2026 Volleyball Nations League (VNL).
On 30 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Somporn Chaibangyang, president of the Volleyball Association of Thailand, revealed the association's financial status and key progress in preparations to host the 2026 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Stage 2. He admitted the association’s budget balance is negative, mainly due to the heavy investment in hosting last year’s Women’s World Volleyball Championship.
He stated, "This year’s financial statement shows a deficit because last year we spent a substantial budget on hosting the Women’s World Volleyball Championship and were unable to raise sufficient funds to cover the costs, leading to this year’s negative budget balance."
"This should not be a problem. It is my responsibility, along with the executive committee, to find ways to secure funding. We seek cooperation from the Sports Authority of Thailand, the National Sports Development Fund, and other sponsors to cover outstanding expenses, debt payments, and any pending tax obligations. We will expedite raising funds to settle these matters, and it should not cause any issues."
For Thai volleyball fans eagerly awaiting world-class matches, Somporn clearly confirmed that Indoor Stadium Huamark will be the main venue for this year’s VNL competition.
"We confirm Indoor Stadium Huamark as the venue for the competition. Preparations are complete, and we are just waiting for official confirmation from the Sports Authority of Thailand and the National Sports Development Fund. Due to the recent change in the Minister of Tourism and Sports, we await confirmation from the new minister, expected early this month."
"In our preparations, we have been coordinating continuously with Volleyball World and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). They have confidence in our capabilities since we have hosted numerous international competitions. Indoor Stadium Huamark is our regular venue, so there are no issues."
