High1 Loses Home Opener 1-3 to GS in South Korean Volleyball League Final

High1’s debut was disappointing as they lost 1-3 at home to GS in the South Korean Volleyball League final.

In the 2025-26 KOVO V-League Korea final’s first match, Korea Expressway High1, the regular season champions and home team of “Mome” Thanatcha Suksod, faced GS Caltex, the third-ranked team in the regular season, led by star attacker Silva.

For this special season final, the format is best-of-five matches. Both teams showed excellent form in the regular season, excelling in offense and serve reception with very similar statistics, making this encounter likely to be a fiercely competitive match.

High1 was led by the strong attacking trio of Mome Thanatcha and Kang So-hwi, who helped the team clinch the regular season title. However, a key factor was the dismissal of coach Kim Jung-min, who had led the team for 10 years, on 26 Mar 2026 GMT+7 following an assault incident involving an assistant coach. The assistant coach stepped up as acting coach but lacks full head coaching experience.

Meanwhile, GS Caltex focused their attack through a single player, Silva, who had an outstanding regular season, ranking first in total points (1,083), attack percentage (47.33%), and attack ratio (43.03%).

In the playoffs, Silva scored 114 points over three matches with a 53.33% success rate, serving as a key player leading GS Caltex to the finals.

GS Caltex proved to have sharper attacking play, winning 3-1 sets with scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-15, and 25-22.

Mome, who had just recovered from injury, did not play the full match and had limited attacking opportunities, scoring 6 points with a 75% attack success rate.
