
It has been confirmed that badminton will adopt a new competition system, to be fully implemented next year, after a vote of 198 in favor and 43 against.
On 25 Apr 2026 GMT+7, it was confirmed that badminton will change its scoring system from 21 points to 15 points, to be fully applied next year following the annual general meeting held today in Horsens, Denmark, by the Badminton World Federation, with representatives from member associations worldwide attending.
At the meeting, which included 202 member associations from five continents, the proposal was approved to change the scoring system from the current 21 points per game to 15 points, while maintaining the match format as best of three games.
The vote results showed 198 in favor and 43 opposed, leading to the approval of the proposal, which will be fully implemented in 2027.
