Thailands Track Cycling Championship Bustles with Over 200 Riders Competing

Thailand's track cycling championship is lively, with over 200 cyclists competing.

The 'two-wheeled' sport is hosting the Thailand Track Cycling Championship for the Queen Sirikit Trophy 2026, Round 2, from 1-3 May at the Velodrome in Huamark. More than 200 cyclists have registered to compete. 'Sergeant Major Muek' revealed that the Cycling Association of Thailand aims to identify young talents to strengthen the national team, prepare for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, and use the event as a test for the 41st National Youth Games in Surat Thani.

Sergeant Major Muek, General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, stated that the association will hold the 2026 Thailand Track Cycling Championship for the Queen Sirikit Trophy, Round 2, from 1-3 May 2026 at the Velodrome within the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) in Huamark. Currently, more than 200 cyclists from member clubs are participating.

General Decha said the Cycling Association organizes five rounds of the Thailand Track Cycling Championship annually to cultivate new athletes from the youth level and to prepare for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games from 31 October to 13 November 2026 in Senegal, where track events may be included. Each round sees many member clubs entering athletes to accumulate annual points. Those with the highest total points in each event receive the royal trophy. Importantly, this process helps discover new athletes to join the national team, replacing older generations as they retire.

General Decha added that for the Thailand Road Cycling Championship, which has already held four rounds, coaches have noted outstanding performances from many youth and junior cyclists. Notably, these athletes can also compete in middle-distance track events such as scratch race, omnium, points race, and pursuit. The association aims to discover new athletes to enhance the sport. For short-distance events like keirin and sprint, developing young talent is equally important. Recently, three Thai national cyclists—Chai Angsuthasawit, Sgt. Maj. Yuenyong Petchrat, and Lt. Naraseththada Bunma—placed sixth in the team sprint at the UCI Track World Cup 2026 Round 3 in Malaysia from 24-26 April.

Sergeant Major Muek continued that the Cycling Association is advancing athlete development at all levels under its personnel development strategy. He urged member clubs to jointly develop new athletes starting from the youth level. The goal is to enable these athletes to progress and become key national team members in the future, whether in short- or middle-distance events—especially short distances, which require significant explosive muscle power and are harder to find athletes for. Additionally, the second round of the track cycling championship will serve as a test for youth cyclists preparing for the 41st National Youth Games, the 'Surat Thani Games,' in Surat Thani from 7-17 May.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, 1 May at 08:30, with General Decha Hemkrasri, President of the Cycling Association of Thailand, presiding alongside the association's executive committee. The event will be live-streamed on Facebook Live via the Thailand Cycling Association and TCA Channel, as well as on YouTube: TCA Channel throughout the three-day competition. On Friday, 1 May, 15 gold medals will be contested, with competitions starting from 07:30 onward.
