Updates on the Thailand women's national volleyball team ahead of their participation in the 2026 VNL second leg in Thailand, with “Beam” Pimphaya Kokram and “Chompoo” Pornpun Guedpard sharing insights on the team’s readiness.
On 16 June 2026, “Beam” Pimphaya, who scored over 63 points in the first week, revealed she did not expect to score that much and has not set a specific point target for this week.
“Last week, I didn’t expect to score that many points. For this week, I’m not aiming for a certain number of points but focusing on whether our team can win and supporting my teammates as much as possible.”
On her birthday this year, she said the gift she wants most is a victory for the Thai national team.
“I want to secure a win. We’ve done a lot of homework. As P’Aom said, we have no time to think about anything else besides volleyball. We’re fighting hard, and I want to lead the team to victory.”
Meanwhile, “Chompoo” Pornpun, the Thai team captain, spoke about playing in front of home fans, saying everyone on the team is fully prepared ahead of their opening match against Ukraine.
“I feel very excited and happy to compete at home. Our physical condition, team form, and all preparations this week are quite good. Everyone is strong and ready to fight tomorrow.”
Although they have never faced Ukraine before, the experienced setter confirmed that Thailand will not underestimate this opponent.
“Ukraine is a new team in the VNL. We will be as cautious as possible, not underestimate them, and believe we can win.”
Regarding the next game against Bulgaria, Pornpun noted that Bulgaria is a familiar rival with unpredictable results in past matches.
“We’ve faced Bulgaria before; it’s a rival where sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. This year they have a new coach and staff. We saw their form in the first match and plan to do our homework thoroughly, recover well after the Ukraine game, and believe we can compete and win.”
In addition, Pornpun described the atmosphere of the traditional Thai costume event with international athletes, which received praise from competitors from Ukraine, Poland, and the Netherlands.
“Everyone admired our Thai costumes. I’m happy to wear them because I don’t know when I’ll have this chance again. Although we didn’t wear the full outfit, everyone said the Thai costumes are very beautiful with colors that suit each person, making all the athletes look very lovely.”
