The captain of Turkey's women's national volleyball team spoke openly after their victory over Brazil to win the 2026 VNL championship.
"Turkey's national team captain" expressed great pride after defeating Brazil to claim the 2026 Women's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) title.
Following Turkey's women's national volleyball team’s strong performance in defeating Brazil 3-1 sets, they secured the 2026 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) championship, their second title after first winning in 2023.
After the match, Gizem Örge, captain of the Turkish national team, said, “I don’t even know how to put it into words. It was a very tough game. Brazil fought incredibly hard, but we performed excellently. I’m proud of everyone who gave their all for this team. I’m very happy. It was truly a fantastic final.”
What led to Turkey’s win in this match was their lower number of errors (12) compared to Brazil’s 17. Additionally, the winners edged Brazil slightly in blocking, with 14 blocks to Brazil’s 13. Melissa Vargas was the top scorer with 33 points, setting the highest scoring record ever in a VNL final (including both men’s and women’s matches).
She scored 27 points from spikes with a 51% success rate, along with 3 service aces and 3 blocks. Meanwhile, Hande Baladın and İlkin Aydın contributed 19 and 15 points respectively for Turkey.
Currently, Turkey ranks third in the world with 388.35 points. Italy holds first place with 461.7 points, followed by Brazil in second with 403.61 points.
