On 3 August 2026, Vietnamese media reported that Nguyen Tuan Kiet would not serve as head coach for the Vietnam women's national volleyball team at the SEA V Cup 2026 Round 2 in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from 7-9 August.
Le Tri Truong, Secretary General of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), revealed that Nguyen Tuan Kiet not coaching at Round 2 was a plan from the start. Former national player Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, already serving as assistant coach, will take over coaching duties.
Nguyen Tuan Kiet will instead oversee 14 other athletes competing at the VTV Cup, scheduled for 8-15 August. This serves as preparation for the Asian Championship from 21-30 August and the Asian Games in September, since the VTV Cup was postponed.
