“TJ” Jai Angsuthasawit, a Thai national cyclist preparing for the 20th Asian Games, delivered a strong performance to claim the gold medal in the men’s Keirin category. Meanwhile, “Jao Nao” Naretthada Bunma secured the bronze medal. Dato Amrit Singh Gill, ACC President, praised the Thai Cycling Association for excellently organizing the “Track Asia Cup 2026,” which featured athletes from 38 teams across 21 countries worldwide. The live broadcasts on Facebook Live and YouTube attracted over 20,000 total views.
The international track cycling competition “Track Asia Cup 2026” took place from 28 to 30 August 2026 at the Velodrome Stadium, Hua Mak, under the Sports Authority of Thailand. The Thai Cycling Association registered the event with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to be included on the UCI calendar as a Class 1 event, important for accumulating world ranking points toward qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games. The opening ceremony on 28 August was honored by Dato Amrit Singh Gill, President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), who presided over the event alongside General Decha Hemkrasri, ACC Vice President, President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Thai Cycling Association under Royal Patronage.
The opening ceremony featured a piphat ensemble from Vajiravudh College and a traditional Khon Ramakien performance titled “Hanuman Raising the Heart Box” by Ramkhamhaeng University, along with full light and sound effects. These performances impressed the ceremony’s dignitaries, attendees, and international athletes. The competition was broadcast live via Facebook Live on the Thailand Cycling Association and TCA Channel pages, as well as on the TCA Channel YouTube, and shared with participating countries, resulting in over 20,000 combined views.
Dato Amrit Singh Gill, ACC President, stated that on behalf of the Asian Cycling Confederation, he thanked and congratulated the Thai Cycling Association for excellently organizing the international track cycling competition “Track Asia Cup 2026” under the leadership of General Decha Hemkrasri, ACC Vice President and Thai Cycling Association President. He expressed gratitude to the organizing committee and all sponsors for their collaboration in successfully hosting this international track cycling event, which was not only a stage for Asian competition but attracted 38 teams from 21 countries worldwide.
General Decha expressed his gratitude to Dato Amrit Singh Gill, ACC President, for honoring the event as chair of the opening ceremony. He thanked Vajiravudh College for their piphat performance and Ramkhamhaeng University for presenting the traditional Khon Ramakien dance “Hanuman Raising the Heart Box,” showcasing Thai culture. The event was broadcast worldwide. He also thanked Thepleela School for bringing students to watch the competition, FBT company for managing the lighting inside the Velodrome Stadium, and MONO MAX for partnering with the Thai Cycling Association to broadcast future competitions.
On the first competition day, 10 gold medals were contested. Notably, in the men’s Keirin category, “TJ” Jai Angsuthasawit, a Thai national cyclist preparing for the 20th Asian Games, powered past competitors in the final lap to finish first, earning the first gold medal for Thailand’s cycling team. He narrowly defeated Australia’s Xavier Bland, who took silver, while “Jao Nao” Naretthada Bunma claimed bronze.
In the women’s category, the gold medal went to Yibin Park of South Korea from the Sangju Cycling Team, silver to Haruka Nagasawa of Japan, and bronze to Cho Yasiu Yang of Hong Kong. Complete results are available on the Thai Cycling Association’s website at www.thaicycling.or.th.
After the competition, General Decha said he was pleased that Jai Angsuthasawit won the Keirin gold medal, performing well to cross the finish line first, and that Naretthada won bronze. Both are national team cyclists preparing for the 20th Asian Games. This competition served as a final test of their skills. Jai and Naretthada will also compete in the sprint and team sprint events, along with other athletes, over the next two days. He asked Thai fans to support the national cycling team as they strive for the best results to bring honor to Thailand.
The schedule for the international track cycling competition “Track Asia Cup 2026” on 29 August starts at 08:00 with 11 gold medals contested. Events include: 500m time trial for junior women and elite women; 1km time trial for junior men and elite men; points race for junior women and elite men; omnium for elite women; and team sprint for elite men and women as well as junior men and women.
