The National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) is moving forward with the NSDF NEXT STEP model in 2027, transparently allocating a budget of 4 billion baht and signing MOUs with the Sports Association of Thailand and provincial sports associations to ensure fair budget distribution.
On Friday, 28 August 2026, at rooms A-B of the Bangkok Sports Club building, a press conference was held to announce the management approach for the 2027 fiscal year and to review the past year’s achievements of the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF).
This is under the guidance and leadership of Mr. Songsak Thongsri, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the NSDF Executive Board, and Mr. Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Vice Chairman of the NSDF Executive Board.
The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, along with Mr. Thanukiat Chanchum, Manager of the National Sports Development Fund, jointly holding the press conference.
Mr. Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Vice Chairman of the NSDF Executive Board, revealed that
the government places importance on improving criteria and guidelines for budget allocation to be clear, fair, transparent, and aligned with the capacity and missions of each sports association.
He expressed gratitude to the media for highlighting issues in the sports sector and playing a crucial role in presenting the National Sports Development Fund’s hard work in elevating Thai sports development.
Meanwhile, Mr. Thanukiat Chanchum, Manager of the National Sports Development Fund, added that
for the 2027 fiscal year, NSDF will operate fully under the “NSDF NEXT STEP” approach with a budget exceeding 4 billion baht, reforming its budget management system significantly. It plans to implement Outcome-Based Budgeting according to OECD and Comptroller General’s Department standards, and reduce the number of plans to nine to make management more concise, agile, and focused on clear results.
A key strategy is intensifying collaboration with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and various sports associations by establishing memorandums of understanding that define goals, missions, and budget frameworks jointly. This includes grouping the Sports Association of Thailand’s sports types and provincial sports associations by capacity to serve as a basis for budget allocation consistent with each association’s capability, performance, and mission.
The Fund aims to ensure budget support directly addresses sports development needs and produces tangible results from every baht invested. It adheres to the “three pillars” principle: systems, data, and fairness, to enhance budget management efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
Furthermore, the Fund intends to organize the “NSDF AWARD” to honor the Sports Association of Thailand and provincial sports associations that demonstrate outstanding performance in efficient budget management and spending in line with objectives, achieving concrete outcomes for athlete development and Thai sports advancement.
“In 2027, the Fund will undertake a major reform of its entire system by intensifying cooperation with SAT and sports associations through jointly setting goals and budgets to ensure that over 4 billion baht of taxpayers’ money is used effectively, targeted, and yields results in developing Thai athletes toward true excellence,” he said.
The reform and enhancement of NSDF’s management in 2027 will proceed under the supervision and leadership of Mr. Songsak Thongsri, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the NSDF Executive Board, and Mr. Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Vice Chairman of the Board, aiming to improve budget support systems to be efficient, transparent, fair, inclusive, and result-oriented.
