B sample test results for "Nong Pink" have arrived after detecting a banned substance, revealing next steps following her absence from the Asian Games.
On 28 Sep 2026 GMT+7, following the case of "Nong Pink" Pitchamol Opasnipat, a female Thai national badminton player, who was temporarily suspended after testing positive for the banned diuretic furosemide, losing her chance to compete in the 2026 Asian Games, the outcome of her B sample test submitted on 24 Sep 2026 GMT+7 was still awaited.
Recently, Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, revealed that the B sample test results have been finalized and confirm the A sample findings, meaning the banned substance was indeed detected in "Nong Pink" Pitchamol.
The detected substance falls under beauty enhancement supplements and is a diuretic, which many might think has no impact on badminton players since there are no weight classes in the sport.
However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations apply to all athletes regardless of sport or gender, without exceptions based on the type of sport.
Mr. Surasak added that penalties will be announced soon. The reason for the presence of the banned substance might be linked to medication for illness or beauty supplements whose packaging did not list the banned components, possibly leading to unintentional use. "Nong Pink" Pitchamol will need to file an appeal regarding this matter.
