Biw Phuriphon Rises to Asias No. 1 in Two Sprint Distances After Winning Gold at 2026 Asian Games

Biw Phuriphon has surged to become Asia's number one sprinter in both 100m and 200m events, ranking 23rd globally in 200m and 29th in 100m following his gold medal wins at the 2026 Asian Games.

Biw Phuriphon Boonsorn, Thailand's national sprinting star, has cemented his dominance on the Asian athletics stage by ranking first in both the men's 100m and 200m events. According to World Athletics' rankings released on 15 Oct 2026 GMT+7, he also stands 23rd globally in the 200m and 29th in the 100m.

The latest rankings show Phuriphon has accumulated 1,257 points in the men's 100m, placing him 29th worldwide and as Asia's highest-ranked sprinter. Following him is Oman's Ali Al Balushi, who ranks second in Asia and 32nd globally with 1,255 points.

In the men's 200m, Phuriphon holds 1,238 points, ranking 23rd in the world and first in Asia. Japanese sprinter Towa Usawa follows as Asia's second, with 1,229 points and 32nd place globally.

These rankings reflect Phuriphon's outstanding performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, where he made history by winning two gold medals in the short sprint events and breaking the Asian Games records for both the 100m and 200m.

In the men's 100m final, Phuriphon clocked 9.90 seconds to win gold and set a new Asian Games record. He became the first Thai sprinter in 48 years to win this event, following Anant Rattanapol in 1974 and Suchart Jasurapap in 1978.

In the men's 200m final, Phuriphon delivered a stunning performance with a time of 19.88 seconds, securing his second gold medal of the Games. This time matches the Asian record set by China's Xie Zhengye in 2019.
