"Seth.Muek" unveils the 2027 cycling strategy to nurture new young blood for development into the national team, hosting the Asian BMX Championship with Olympic quota hopes, alongside a kids' balance bike Asian championship in Korat.
"Seth.Muek," General Decha Hemkrasri, revealed the Cycling Association of Thailand's 2027 strategic plan to continue organizing competitions at all levels to discover and develop talented youth for the national team. Thailand will host the 2027 Asian BMX Championships on 29-30 May at Kamol Sports Park, where champions will earn quotas for the 2028 Olympic Games per UCI criteria. Additionally, the Asian kids' balance bike championship will be held on 17 July at The Mall Lifestore Korat, alongside a full calendar of national and international competitions for the year.
General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, announced that the association has finalized the 2027 Thailand Cycling Championships program. It includes road, mountain bike, and track disciplines with five rounds each, plus flat mountain biking and the Thailand Open Road races with four rounds each, and the kids' balance bike Thailand Championship with five rounds. Several international events will also be held to provide opportunities for youth and public athletes to develop skills and accumulate points as per the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) regulations.
General Decha said the international competitions start with the "2027 Thailand MTB Cup" cross-country mountain bike race on 13 January 2027 at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. This event is registered as a UCI C1 level race for Olympic qualification points for 2028. Following that is the 2027 Asian BMX Continental Championships & Challenge Class and an international UCI C1 BMX race on 29-30 May 2027 at Kamol Sports Park, Nong Chok District, Bangkok. This event is a key qualifier where male and female elite riders earn spots for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games as continental champions under UCI rules.
General Decha added that the international calendar includes the "Tour of Thailand 2027" men's team race for the royal trophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn from 28 June to 3 July 2027, and the "Women's Tour of Thailand 2027" from 5-7 July 2027 in Chiang Rai Province. Also scheduled is the "Asian Balance Bike Championships 2027 Presented by BATAC" for kids on 17 July 2027 at The Mall Lifestore Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, followed by the international track event "Track Asia Cup 2027" from 23-25 July 2027 at Huamark Velodrome, Bangkok.
General Decha continued that besides international races, the Cycling Association has registered the Thailand National Road Cycling Championships for the King Bhumibol Trophy 2027 with UCI CN level status. The first round is from 15-17 January 2027 at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Thong Pha Phum District, including time trial and road race events. The third round of the Thailand National Mountain Bike Championships for the King’s Trophy is set for 23-25 April 2027 at Khao Phraya Dern Thong, Phatthana Nikhom District, Lopburi Province, also registered at CN level for downhill, cross-country, and eliminator disciplines.
General Decha added that the Thailand National BMX Championships for Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Trophy 2027 will hold its first round on 23 January 2027 at Kamol Sports Park, Suwinthawong Road, Nong Chok District, Bangkok, registered at UCI CN level. The second round of the Thailand National Track Championships for the Queen Sirikit Trophy 2027 is scheduled for 7-9 May 2027 at Huamark Velodrome, also CN level. All UCI-registered races across mountain bike, road, BMX, and track allow athletes to accumulate world ranking points important for qualification to the World Championships and 2028 Olympic Games.
"The Cycling Association's strategic plan is to develop young cyclists by using the Thailand National Championships across disciplines as a platform to identify and select talented athletes. Each year, many skilled youth and junior cyclists emerge. The association selects promising athletes to join the Thai national team and provides ongoing development pathways to international levels. Without continuous competitions, there would be no platform to discover new talent to replace aging senior athletes. Thus, ongoing events are a key mechanism for nurturing new generations for the national team," General Decha said.
The 2027 Thailand National Cycling Championships calendar includes five rounds of road cycling for the King Bhumibol Trophy: Round 1 on 15 and 17 January 2027 in Thong Pha Phum, Kanchanaburi Province (registered as UCI CN level), Round 2 on 12 and 14 March 2027 at Saranjit Mongkolsuk Cycling Stadium (Bueng Si Fai), Phichit Province, Round 3 on 23 and 25 April 2027 at Khao Phraya Dern Thong, Lopburi Province, Round 4 on 11 and 13 June 2027 in Pong Nam Ron, Chanthaburi Province, and Round 5 on 20 and 22 August 2027 at Bhumibol Dam, Tak Province.
