
Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran confirmed their win over the Taiwanese pair with a 2-0 victory, advancing to the second round of the Malaysia Open 2025 badminton tournament.
At the Petronas Malaysia Open 2026, a World Tour Super 1000 badminton event in Malaysia, the mixed doubles first round took place on 7 January. "Bas" Dechapol Puavaranukroh and "Fem" Supissara Paewsampran, ranked third in the world and seeded third in the tournament, faced Yeh Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan, the 16th-ranked mixed doubles pair from Taiwan.
Looking back to the first round of last year's event, Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran also faced Yeh Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan, winning in straight games 21-12, 21-14. Bas and Fem went on to claim the championship. The two pairs have met three more times since, with the Thai duo winning all encounters.
In their fifth meeting, the Taiwanese pair started strong, building an early lead in the first game. However, after the mid-game break, Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran played excellently and won 21-16. In the second game, Taiwan led 14-8, but the Thai pair caught up in the final stages and clinched a thrilling 21-18 victory. Ultimately, Bas and Fem won 2-0 in games (21-16, 21-18) over 38 minutes.
This win advances Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran to the round of 16, where they will face the winner of the Japanese matchup between Yuichi Shimagami and Sayaka Hobara, ranked 20th in the world, and Akira Koga and Natsu Saito.
