The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested 'Tokyo Girl' and a medium who admitted to sharing competition login codes; they are now detained and sent to court for SEA Games 2025 cheating.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) under the command of Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak Chaowana-sai, Commissioner of CIB, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Montri Thetsakhon, Commander of CSD, ordered Pol. Col. Thanawat Hinyokhin, Superintendent of Division 5, CSD, to lead officers to arrest two suspects on serious charges under the Computer Crime Act following suspicions of international esports competition fraud.
Summary of the scandal: “Hiring substitutes” ruins the entire team.
This incident occurred during the 33rd SEA Games (SEA Games 2025) on 15 December 2025 at Sala Phra Kiao, Chulalongkorn University, in the women's team category of Arena of Valor (RoV) during the semifinals against Vietnam.
1. Suspicion during the match: Officials noticed unusual behavior by Ms. Napat (Suspect 1), a Thai national athlete, who was switching her phone screen during the competition.
2. Key evidence: Upon inspection, officers found the Discord app installed and a voice channel left open connecting to Mr. Chaiyo (Suspect 2).
3. Impact: The Thai national team was immediately disqualified, and the Thailand Esports Federation (TESF) withdrew from all events, causing severe damage to the country’s reputation.
The "Medium" scheme: Sharing login codes for a substitute to play.
In-depth investigations revealed that the two suspects had systematically planned the fraud:
• Code sharing: Ms. Napat gave her unique competition system username and password to Mr. Chaiyo so he could log in and play on her behalf.
• Device swapping: On match day, Ms. Napat secretly swapped her personal phone with the Discord app installed to share her screen, allowing Mr. Chaiyo to play instead (Ghosting).
• Plan failed: Technical issues prevented sending the room number; Ms. Napat had to play herself, leading to her suspicious behavior being detected.
Arrest and charges.
On 4 February 2026, officers executed search warrants at three locations in Nonthaburi and Nakhon Phanom provinces, seizing critical evidence including phones used for login, IP address data, and chat logs outlining the plan.
Both suspects were formally charged.
"Conspiring to knowingly bypass computer system access controls set by others, unlawfully disclosing and accessing protected computer data."
Legal proceedings: The suspects confessed to all charges. Authorities forwarded their cases to prosecutors, who filed charges at the Pathumwan District Court on 6 February 2026. The verdict is scheduled for 17 March 2026.
CIB warning: Game cheating equals jail time.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) emphasized that unauthorized access to protected competition servers is not just a sports rule violation but a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment and fines, leaving a permanent criminal record. They urged national team representatives not to sacrifice the country’s reputation out of selfishness.
