
Unbeaten for 10 Years! “Biw Thanapoom” Sweeps Gold at Thai Championships Since Age 9, Sharing None with Friends!
“Biw” Thanapoom Fuengnoi, a Thai national taekwondo athlete and recent gold medalist at the SEA Games and Asian Championships, demonstrated his outstanding skill by attacking his opponent until they conceded defeat. He claimed the gold medal in the men’s 18-and-over 63-68 kg category, maintaining an undefeated record. He has competed in the Thai Taekwondo Championships since age 9 and has brought home gold every year for over 10 years.
The taekwondo competition, "GH Bank Thai National Taekwondo Championships 2026 Fighting Category," took place from 26-30 March 2026 at Nonthaburi Gymnasium, Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization Sports Stadium. Over 2,500 athletes from across Thailand registered to compete this year, marking the highest number since the inception of the national taekwondo championships.
On 29 March, as the competition neared its final stages, the highlight of the day featured the men’s 18-and-over category.
Men’s 18-and-over 63-68 kg final was between Setthada Songsichan, last year’s runner-up from TTC Trang team, and Thanapoom Fuengnoi, a star from the Thai national team, SEA Games gold medalist, and Asian Championship gold medalist representing KCS Academy of Taekwondo A.
Although Setthada was older, Thanapoom’s superior skill was evident. The SEA Games gold medalist, with his tall stature and long legs, flawlessly used his legs to attack and defend. He comfortably defeated his opponent, winning the first round 12-1. In the second round, Setthada’s coach conceded defeat. Thanapoom Fuengnoi from KCS Academy of Taekwondo A claimed the Thailand championship title in the men’s 18-and-over 63-68 kg category.
After winning the championship, rising taekwondo star “Biw” Thanapoom Fuengnoi expressed his happiness at achieving his goal, saying he expected to win gold. Since entering the Thai championships at age 9, he has won gold every year in every age category he competed in, now marking his 10th consecutive year. Despite holding a SEA Games gold medal, he never underestimated his opponents. Looking ahead, he is preparing for the Asian Championship qualifiers and aims to earn medals in every competition as part of the national team.
In the women’s 18-and-over 53-57 kg final, Natcha Sottises from RSR Taekwondo Team B faced “Nom Sen” Natthnicha Saimuang, a former Thai youth national team member and gold medalist at last year’s National Youth Games in Chonburi, who was also last year’s runner-up in this event from Dragon Gym Phuket A.
Early in the first round, both fighters exchanged two points each. Near the end of the round, Natcha closed in and landed two punches to the abdomen, leading 4-2. In the second round, Natthnicha quickly took the lead with two body kicks. Natcha tried to regain points, scoring one punch to the abdomen, but Natthnicha won the round 2-1, leveling the match at 1-1 rounds. In the final round, both scored points back and forth, but the former youth national team member landed a decisive head strike and ultimately won 10-6.
At the end of the competition, Natthnicha Saimuang from Dragon Gym Phuket A defeated Natcha Sottises from RSR Taekwondo Team B 2-1 rounds to claim the women’s 18-and-over 53-57 kg Thai championship title. The champion shared her feelings after the victory, saying she was happy to succeed because she only won silver last year. This year, she aimed to reclaim the title and achieved her goal as planned.
