A man raised money for his wedding by selling three Pokémon cards from his collection, hoping they would help a little, but ended up earning nearly 1.3 million baht.
On Wednesday, 22 April 2026 GMT+7, Andrew Brown, a 37-year-old teaching assistant from England, decided to sell his Pokémon card collection to help cover the costs of his upcoming wedding party. He roughly estimated he wouldn't earn much, expecting no more than 500 to 673 pounds, which would have been reasonable if the cards he owned were not special.
The cards he owned included Charizard, a popular fire-type Pokémon from the early sets. These cards range in value from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars each. The three cards were from the 2003 "Skyridge" series, widely regarded as one of the best series the company has produced in over 30 years. The holographic Charizard card is considered an unofficially rare card that, if in perfect condition, can sell for over 40,000 US dollars, roughly equivalent to 1,287,400 baht.
He sent the cards to PSA, a professional grading company, to verify their authenticity and condition. The holographic Charizard card was graded 9 out of 10 despite being poorly preserved for over 10 years and sold for 21,250 US dollars, approximately 683,601 baht.
The second card, similar to the first but in better condition, sold for 16,250 US dollars, about 552,786 baht.
The third card, a holographic Charizard from the same series, sold for 3,500 US dollars, roughly 112,610 baht. Together, the three cards fetched a total profit of 41,000 US dollars, or approximately 1,319,252 baht.
Andrew Brown revealed that this set of cards held the least sentimental value compared to his favorite cards in the collection. "The ones I liked as a kid look old now because I always carried them in my pocket," he said.
"I am incredibly lucky," Andrew Brown said. He plans to use the profits to cover his wedding expenses scheduled for August and feels relieved not to worry about where the wedding funds will come from.
