"Sergeant Major Muek" accelerates the development of quality cycling coaches, launching training to advance toward global standards.
"Sergeant Major Muek," General Decha Hemkrasri, is advancing the personnel development strategy of the Cycling Association of Thailand by launching the "UCI Coaching Course Level 2" with a world-class instructor from the United States. The initiative aims to enhance knowledge in sports science and training technology while selecting talented individuals to progress to the highest UCI level course, developing quality coaches and elevating Thai cyclists to international standards.
General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, announced that the association is conducting the "UCI Coaching Course Level 2" at Vasithi City Hotel in Suphan Buri from 22-26 July 2026. Fifteen coaches are attending, with the International Cycling Union (UCI) appointing Mr. Robert Herber Jr., a professional American mountain bike coach certified at UCI Level 4, as the instructor.
General Decha explained that the 15 participants include some who completed Level 1, plus others personally selected by Mr. Robert Herber Jr. based on their performance in the "UCI Coaching Course Level 1" earlier this year. Selection criteria included good academic results, dedication, and functional English skills. Level 2 builds on Level 1 by delving deeper into developing cyclists' potential, integrating sports science and technology to assist training, and specialized muscle development. The training includes both theoretical classroom sessions and practical applications.
General Decha added that trainees who achieve high exam scores will be considered for the "UCI Coaching Course Level 3"—currently the highest UCI coaching certification. Five coaches from the Cycling Association have passed this level: “Coach Tum” Lt. Col. Wisut Kasiapath, “Coach Bas” Lt. Col. Phungchong Saeudomsilp, “Colonel Bees” Capt. Juthathip Maneepan, “Coach Nop” Police Lt. Adisak Wansri, and “TJ” Jai Angsuthasawit, a Thai national cyclist. The Level 3 certification enables coaches to serve national or professional cycling teams worldwide.
"Each year, the Cycling Association of Thailand receives support from the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and the International Cycling Union (UCI) to conduct multiple training programs. This aligns with the association’s personnel development strategy, which focuses not only on athlete excellence but also on developing coaches, referees, and professional bike mechanics. This approach ensures a diverse and skilled workforce, particularly coaches who will apply new knowledge to train Thai cyclists to reach international levels," General Decha concluded.
