Thailand Ready to Host Track Asia Cup 2026 with 38 Teams from 21 Countries Competing

Thailand is prepared to host the “Track Asia Cup 2026,” with 38 teams from 21 countries competing intensely. Asian Games cyclists will participate to test their skills.

“Sergeant Major Muek” confirmed readiness for the international track cycling event “Track Asia Cup 2026,” held from 28-30 August at Huamark Velodrome. Listed as a UCI Class 1 event to accumulate qualifying points for the 2028 Olympics, it features 38 teams from 21 countries, with over 1,000 athletes and officials—the largest ever. Thailand’s national team preparing for the 20th Asian Games has returned from training in China to compete against international rivals before final preparations in Tianjin ahead of the “Nagoya Games.”

“Sergeant Major Muek,” General Decha Hemkrasri, Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, chaired the press conference for the international track cycling event “Track Asia Cup 2026.” It will take place from 28-30 August 2026 at Huamark Velodrome under the Sports Authority of Thailand. The event was attended by the association’s executive committee, sponsors, and media at the Buhnga Room, Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel, on 18 August 2026.

The Cycling Association of Thailand registered the international track cycling competition “Track Asia Cup 2026” with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a Class 1 event on the UCI calendar. This allows riders to earn world ranking points toward qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, and to gain entry to Nations Cup and World Championships. The competition features 38 teams from 21 countries, including national and club teams. National teams include Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Malaysia, Macau, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.

The 23 club teams include six from South Korea: Sangju Cycling, Samyang Cycling, KSPO Cycling, KNSU, Yeoncheon Cycling, and Yeongdeungpo Technical High School; three from China: Yunnan Cycling, Guangzhou Cycling, and Sichuan Cycling; two from Taiwan: Xinzhe High School and Fulcum Kaohsiung 0715; two from Hong Kong: HKSI and CAHK; two from Malaysia: Selangor Cycling Federation and Kahya Mata. Other teams include Standard Insurance from the Philippines, QLD from Australia, Jakarta Pro Cycling from Indonesia, as well as club teams from Sweden, the United States, Cuba, Slovakia, and Thailand’s Velodrome team.

General Decha revealed that having 38 teams from 21 countries with over 1,000 athletes and officials is a record high. These participants will spend on local shops, restaurants, and souvenir vendors, boosting income for local merchants. Additionally, athletes will visit tourist attractions, helping stimulate the economy and promote tourism. The opening ceremony on 28 August at 2:00 p.m. will be honored by Dato Amjad Singh Gill, ACC President, as the ceremony chairman. Performances include the Ramakien Khon dance by Ramkhamhaeng University, a piphat ensemble from Vajiravudh College, and full light and sound shows.

General Decha stated the Cycling Association of Thailand will have the national team preparing for the 20th Asian Games, training in Tianjin, China, return to compete alongside other Thai national cyclists. This team is led by “Colonel Bee,” Lieutenant Colonel Jutatip Maneephan, “TJ” Jai Angsuthasawit, “Naeo” Petty Officer First Class Naraseththada Boonma, and “Makham” Sergeant First Class Yuenyong Petchrat. After competing, they will return to Tianjin for final preparations before the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, in September.

General Decha added that Thailand’s hopes for the Asian Games lie with the men’s sprint team, including Jai, Naraseththada, and Yuenyong. The Thai sprint team is currently ranked 15th worldwide and 5th in Asia. They also expect strong performances in the keirin event from Jai and Naraseththada, aiming for the finals and medal chances. Jutatip also competes in the omnium event with medal potential.

“We invite Thai cycling fans to attend and support the Thai cyclists every day free of charge. All Thai riders, including the Asian Games and youth teams, are training diligently to bring honor to Thailand. For those unable to attend at Huamark Velodrome, the Cycling Association will livestream the Track Asia Cup 2026 on Facebook Live via Thailand Cycling Association and TCA Channel, as well as on YouTube’s TCA Channel, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily until the competition concludes,” General Decha concluded.
