On 26 August 2026, "Biw" Phuriphon Boonsorn, Thailand's national record holder in the 100m and 200m, returned from a full month of training and competition in the Czech Republic. He is now back in Thailand for final preparations ahead of the 20th Asian Games from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Phuriphon Boonsorn said he was fairly satisfied with his times after spending a full month training in the Czech Republic. Although not his best phase yet, it was a period of physical conditioning and foundation building, with gradual improvement.
"Coach G. (Gentry Bradley, American head athletics coach) focused on the start and the early to middle phases of the race. He already has confidence in my finish. My start has improved a lot with many technical tips from the coach. The next month will involve much more intense training."
"I have high hopes for this Asian Games. I am striving to improve myself, aiming to win the gold medal and bring my times closer to the Asian record during this competition. Another goal is to lower my times to a world-class level, competing at 9.7 to 9.8 seconds."
"As for competitors, I know Japan has legendary sprinters who have run 9-second times for a long time, and there might be a dark horse from Oman with a recent sub-10-second time. China is uncertain; the defending champion from last year might compete. I am confident I can win gold. Regarding the 4x100m relay, our team ranks third in Asia this year. It will be tough as China and Japan will surely field their top squads, but I trust my teammates. We have trained and strategized together, and everyone is very dedicated."
