Previously, Mananchaya Swangkaew and Alicia Parks had met once before in a WTA 125 tournament in Hong Kong during the first round, where Mananchaya won 2-1 sets, 5-7, 6-3, and 6-4. Mananchaya was aiming to reach the third round to match the record of Tamarine Tanasugarn, who reached the quarterfinals in women's singles in 2008.
Mananchaya Swangkaew delivered an outstanding and decisive performance, defeating Alicia Parks 2-0 sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-0, advancing to the third round.
