22 Dec 2025 GMT+7Bunyarit WongthornBunyarit Wongthorn, setter for the Thai men's national volleyball team, opened up about Park Ki-won, the South Korean coach who led Thailand to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Indonesia to win the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games, breaking an 8-year championship drought. He admitted he once questioned whether this coach could lead them to a title.
Bunyarit posted on his personal Facebook, "I've talked a lot about myself, now I want to talk about this coach. Making the national team is always tough for the younger players. From the first day I met this coach, I kept asking myself, ‘Can this coach really lead us to a championship?’ When we won the first tournament in Taiwan, I was still shocked—how did he manage that?"
"Whenever you question him about why he does things a certain way, you almost don't want to be around him. He is never selfish; he wants every athlete to succeed. Thank you, Coach Park, for making me a better person, for helping me focus, and for thinking through every plan so my teammates can perform well."
"And if P'Mac hadn’t quit playing, he was the one who recommended me to Coach Park for a tryout. Without that, my path in volleyball would have been almost impossible."
"Thanks to my first coach, Ajarn Sombun Sukhonthapong. Thanks to my mother, Pathum Phanpisut. Thanks to Coach Park and all the staff for their hard work. Little Cat is no longer here."
