On 21 August 2026, Pornpan Kedpradit, setter and captain of the Thailand women's national volleyball team, gave an interview after the first match of the 2026 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship, Group B, held in Tianjin, People's Republic of China.
The Thai women's volleyball team opened the tournament by easily defeating Australia 3-0 sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-18), securing their first 3 points as planned in the race for the 2026 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship title, which carries qualification for the 2028 Olympics.
Captain Pornpan commented on Thailand's first win in the 2026 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship: "I always feel excited before the first match. Every competition brings excitement, not panic, but excitement to play. This is an Asian-level game, and we haven't faced these teams for a long time."
"We want to see their development, and we feel that if we don't underestimate this team, we'll gain a lot. It helps our team collect details, know how many points we want to score, and how much we can afford to lose."
"We try to reduce our mistakes and minimize self-inflicted points in each set. In the third set, they gained confidence compared to the first two sets, so we had to refocus on controlling individual skills and increase precision in our play for the upcoming matches."
Pornpan also spoke about Bumbim Chatchu-on Moksri, an important outside hitter who returned to the team after recovering from a shoulder injury that kept her out for seven months: "We believe her potential has returned well because of her experience, although she has been away from competition for a bit."
"We are not yet sure if her game feeling has fully returned, but based on her potential, she can be a key puzzle piece and contribute greatly to the team."
"Thanks to all the fans who followed and cheered for us today. We will have a two-day break before the competition intensifies. Please continue to support and send your encouragement to us."
In the 2026 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship Group B, match 2, the Thailand women's team will face Indonesia, ranked 57th in the world, on Monday, 24 August 2026 at 14:00 Thailand time.
