The men's volleyball warm-up tournament FIPAV Cup Men Elite in Reggio Calabria, Italy, on the evening of 26 August 2026, became a historic match in world volleyball. The German national team faced the Italian national team in the first set with the longest score ever recorded before Italy won 3-2 sets (64-66, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 15-22).
The first set was won by Germany 66-64, lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes, breaking the longest national-level deuce record in volleyball history. The previous record was from the VNL 2026 match between Argentina and Poland, which ended 50-48 in 62 minutes on 28 June 2026.
However, according to the statistics site volleybox.net, the highest deuce score in volleyball history occurred in the Czechoslovak league in 1979 (87-85). The next highest was a South Korean league match involving the KAL Jumbos (56-54) on 28 January 2013.
