Ham Napadet, a member of Thailand's men's national volleyball team, caused quite a stir when foreign media interviewed him in English, and he was able to respond fluently on his own without any difficulty.
After the 2026 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship preliminary round Group C match where Thailand defeated South Korea 3-2, Napadet, who scored a match-high 25 points, was interviewed about his feelings on the game. Coach Toon Sarun Jaruwat, acting as interpreter for the Thai team, stood by to help translate questions and answers.
However, when the actual interview took place, Napadet understood and answered the media's questions in English himself, leaving Coach Toon visibly confused. He jokingly asked, "Why did they have me come?" to which Napadet replied, "...they didn't say." This exchange quickly became a meme on social media.
Thailand's men's volleyball team will next play their third Group C match against Chinese Taipei on Wednesday, 9 September at 11:30 a.m. Thai time.
