A 52-year-old intoxicated mother stabbed her 36-year-old daughter to death naked in the bathroom, then sat holding her ID card waiting to surrender to police. She claimed she was angry after forcing her daughter's boyfriend out of the house. Relatives revealed they often argued when drunk.
On 4 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sompol Srisail, investigator at Nong Saeng Police Station, received a report of a mother stabbing her daughter to death in the bathroom of a house in Saeng Sawang Subdistrict, Nong Saeng District, Udon Thani Province. He, along with Police Colonel Sitthiporn Tharagulthip, chief of Nong Saeng Police Station, an on-duty doctor from Nong Saeng Hospital, and emergency rescue personnel from Saeng Sawang Municipality, went to investigate.
At the scene, a two-story house with many locals gathered, inside the ground floor bathroom they found the body of Ms. Jane (pseudonym), 36, lying naked in a pool of blood near a plastic bucket. A pink towel covered her body. She had a severe stab wound on the right side of her neck. Blood flowed over the bathroom floor. A pointed knife about one foot long with blood stains lay outside the bathroom. Police collected it as evidence.
The suspect, Mrs. Jan (pseudonym), 52, the victim's mother, was found sitting on the ground intoxicated, holding her ID card, waiting to surrender beside the house. She initially confessed to stabbing her daughter to death. Police took Mrs. Jan and the knife to the station for interrogation and legal proceedings. The body of Ms. Jane was handed to relatives for traditional funeral rites.
During questioning, Mrs. Jan said she lived in the house with her mother and the victim. She is a widow separated from her husband. The victim was also a widow, having had three husbands and three daughters, but separated from all three husbands. The grandchildren lived with their fathers and grandmothers. The victim lived with Mrs. Jan. The victim often used methamphetamine. Mrs. Jan had reported her to police to prevent drug use. Later, the victim began dating a new man involved with drugs. Mrs. Jan did not want her daughter to have a bad husband and wanted her to have a future, so she urged her to break up, but the daughter refused.
Four days before, Mrs. Jan and her daughter drank alcohol until drunk. The daughter expelled Mrs. Jan's boyfriend from the house, which made Mrs. Jan angry and she told her daughter to end her relationship, leading to an argument. Last night, the daughter brought her boyfriend to stay at the house. Mrs. Jan was displeased and told her daughter to evict him. Then they used methamphetamine and drank together. The next morning, Mrs. Jan continued drinking until intoxicated, while the daughter was still asleep. When the daughter woke and prepared to shower, they argued again. In anger, Mrs. Jan took a knife and stabbed her daughter to death.
“I admit I am very sorry because she is my child, the one I carried and gave birth to. Of course, I feel grief, but because she would not listen and I could not stop her, this happened and I must accept it. If my daughter's spirit can hear me, I want to say that I take full responsibility,” Mrs. Jan said.
Mrs. Jan’s older sister said she heard their 93-year-old mother complaining, "This is what happens when they drink." Then Mrs. Jan came crying to her, confessing she had killed her daughter. She did not believe it at first but saw blood stains on Mrs. Jan and alerted the village chief’s wife and neighbors, who discovered the stabbed victim. The mother and daughter often fought when drunk, including hitting and arguing, but when sober, they spoke kindly to each other, saying "Mom" and "Daughter."
Police Colonel Sitthiporn Tharagulthip, chief of Nong Saeng Police Station, explained the motive: both mother and daughter had boyfriends, but the mother disliked her daughter's boyfriend and did not want her to be with a bad man; she wanted a better future for her daughter. The daughter also disliked her mother's boyfriend, leading to ongoing conflicts until the mother stabbed her daughter to death. A drug test on the mother revealed purple-colored urine, and she admitted to methamphetamine use prior to the incident. She was charged with "assault causing death" and detained for legal proceedings.
