A bloodstained sharp steel knife and the victim's phone were found and collected as evidence.
The Asia Rojana Hospital transferred the critically injured victim to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital, where he later died.
Local residents said they saw the injured man lying in a pool of blood while returning to a shop by motorcycle. They learned he had been stabbed but did not know the cause of the attack.
Mr. Worawat Yamuang, a volunteer from Phutthaisawan Foundation, said he was on duty when alerted by the dispatch center about a man assaulted with a knife. Ms. Wipada, 40, a restaurant manager, said the victim worked as a security guard there. Around 23:00, he told staff he was going out on an errand and left on a motorcycle despite staff warnings. He seemed intent on resolving something. Later, rescue workers came asking if he had relatives at the shop, which is when she learned he had been severely stabbed.
She said the cause was unknown but heard from others that a woman had called him before he left and was later attacked. She was unsure if the woman was involved but suspected the incident was related to a woman.
Ms. Ta, the victim's sister, said her brother was unmarried and went out to work to help support their mother. She did not know of any personal disputes but learned from his coworkers that a woman had called him before he was stabbed by the assailant. She expressed shock at the brutality, noting nearly 20 stab wounds, and urged police to quickly arrest the perpetrator and bring them to justice.
Recently, Police Colonel Phiphop Naputra, Chief of Bang Pa-in Police Station, said the investigation team immediately began reviewing CCTV footage around the area after the report. Key footage showed the victim parking his motorcycle in front of a karaoke venue before being lured to leave the building.
Reviewing the footage showed the assailants had been watching and waiting for the right moment. Police suspect more than two suspects were involved, noting a motorcycle repeatedly circling near the scene, suggesting premeditation.
Police have summoned two witnesses to provide additional statements to clarify the timeline and suspicious behaviors of the suspects. The investigation team is gathering evidence of escape routes before and after the attack from surveillance cameras to swiftly track down the perpetrators.
In the preliminary investigation, police have not ruled out personal conflicts or old grudges in the area as possible motives. Evidence is being collected to request court approval for arrest warrants to bring the offenders to justice.
