Chonburi Police Arrest Cambodian Gang Leader Who Posted Defiant Video Mother Apologizes to Thai People

Chonburi police have arrested three suspects, including the ringleader of a Cambodian youth gang, after they gathered to cause unrest by shouting loudly and filming themselves throwing an explosive, daring Thai people to come out and fight. The mother wants to apologize to all Thai people, saying her son acted wrongly amid the ongoing tense border situation. Authorities are continuing to pursue and prosecute everyone involved.

In a case involving a video clip of more than 10 Cambodian youths gathered on the street, one wearing a white helmet held a spartan knife over 1 meter long in one hand and an object wrapped in black tape resembling a ping-pong bomb in the other. He then threw the object onto the road with a loud bang. Meanwhile, the group shouted challenges in the clip, seemingly daring Thai people to fight, saying, “Come on, come out,” which made the video go viral on social media.

The latest update at 15:30 on 17 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Police Colonel Wasurat Chaitheerapat, Deputy Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, visited Nong Yai Police Station and joined a meeting with Police Colonel Rames Chanasutpakarn, Chief of Nong Yai Police, Mr. Pongnatee and Mr. Don, district officers of Nong Yai. They also inspected the incident site shown in the clip at the Xin Ke Yuan steel factory junction on Chalermlap Road, Tasit Subdistrict, Pluak Daeng District, Rayong Province, where three districts—Pluak Daeng, Si Racha, and Nong Yai—converge.

Investigators from Region 2 and Nong Yai Police have mobilized to track down clues and have apprehended three suspects featured in the video, including the ringleaders: 1. Mr. Kemmara Muot, 20, Cambodian, motorcycle passenger; 2. Mr. Mey Mey, 21, who threw the explosive and held the spartan knife; and 3. another suspect who filmed and posted the video on social media. They also seized a black-red Honda Wave motorcycle with license plate 2 กษ 8790 Rayong as evidence.

Mrs. Koet Nuan, 50, mother of Mr. Mey Mey, the suspect who threw the explosive and wielded the spartan knife, revealed that she has lived in Thailand for 25 years and works with factory equipment in Nong Yai. On the day of the arrest, she was at home with her son and daughter-in-law when several police officers arrived, took her son, and brought her to the police station. She was unaware of the reason until her daughter-in-law showed her the clip and information revealing her son's wrongdoing, which was widely shared on Facebook with many people searching for him.

Upon learning the news, she felt deeply sorry that her son committed such acts. Having lived in Thailand over 25 years, she constantly advised her son to work hard and avoid trouble, but never expected him to sneak out at night to cause problems. As a mother, she wishes to apologize to all Thai people for her son's actions during this tense border situation, as she regularly tried to teach him otherwise.

Police Colonel Wasurat Chaitheerapat, Deputy Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, along with Police Colonel Rames Chanasutpakarn, Chief of Nong Yai Police, are accelerating their investigation to identify and arrest other suspects shown in the video and will hand them over to prosecutors for legal action.
