The Royal Thai Police Chief has ordered strict enforcement for New Year 2026 to ensure safety in all aspects, suppress crime, manage traffic, tightly control high-risk locations, and prevent incidents nationwide. Additionally, he has emphasized strict action on 10 key traffic offenses to reduce accident-related losses.
Today (21 December 2025), Pol Maj Gen Yingyos Thepchamnong, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, announced that Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the Police Chief, has instructed all units to prepare to protect citizens and tourists during the Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays. The measures cover comprehensive areas including crime prevention, traffic facilitation, accident reduction, and readiness for possible unrest during the long holiday to build confidence among the public and visitors.
Regarding crime prevention and suppression, a nationwide crackdown on all types of crime is underway, including offenses involving firearms, narcotics, gambling, cybercrime, influential figures, and illegal money lending from 17 to 25 December 2025. The police have been instructed to increase patrol frequency at transport stations, tourist spots, hotels, high-risk areas, and important sites. They are also strictly screening for illegal border crossings, weapons, explosives, and drugs. Entertainment venues are monitored to prohibit weapons, narcotics, human trafficking, and alcohol sales are tightly controlled. Additionally, the "Police United Project to Enhance Home Security During Major Festivals (Home Deposit 4.0)" runs from 22 December 2025 to 5 January 2026, allowing citizens traveling out of town to register their homes with police via the OBS application or at police stations.
For preventing unrest, the Police Chief has ordered strict nationwide control to minimize risks of opportunistic violent acts during the long holiday. All units are urged to increase vigilance and security preparedness, plan response strategies, boost patrols at critical sites, deploy suitable patrol units by area, and have special forces, tactical teams, rapid response units, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams ready to support immediately if incidents occur. Monitoring of abnormal activities is also emphasized. The Police Hospital is preparing emergency medical teams, and the Police Aviation Division is ready to support medical air transport as needed.
Traffic facilitation measures include managing and enforcing traffic laws strictly to ensure safety and reduce road accidents, particularly during the intensive 7-day period from 30 December 2025 to 5 January 2026. The police will focus on 10 major offenses such as drunk driving, speeding, and not wearing helmets. Highway police and traffic officers nationwide will facilitate traffic flow to prevent congestion, prepare alternative and secondary routes, and consider opening special traffic lanes.
Furthermore, the Royal Thai Police spokesperson stated that the Police Chief has urged all police officers, saying, “This New Year, safety must be a gift to the people.” He emphasized that every officer must perform their duties firmly and tactically to assure the public that “Thai police are ready to protect every life and property throughout New Year 2026. We wish everyone a safe journey home and happy family time.” Citizens are also urged to strictly follow traffic laws and safety measures and to report any suspicious activity or individuals by calling the 24-hour hotlines 191 or 1599.
