Police Chief Big Tai affirms that the voice clip involving the Nakhon Si Thammarat police commander demanding benefits is not difficult to verify, despite claims it is AI-generated. He warns that if found guilty, criminal and disciplinary actions will reach up to the Police Commander level. He urges not to generalize the issue to the entire organization and wants to review before disbanding the special task force, fearing it may affect operations.
At 11:30 a.m. on 22 December 2025 GMT+7 at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the Royal Thai Police Chief, revealed that the commander of Nakhon Si Thammarat police, involved in a voice clip demanding benefits from subordinate officers, has been ordered to assist at the National Police Operations Center. He also assigned the National Police Inspector General to establish a committee to investigate all facts and instructed the disciplinary division to proceed according to regulations.
He added that after listening to the entire voice clip, it is believed to be the provincial police commander, but a thorough fact-finding is required. This includes examining the mobile phone by the Forensic Science Division and verifying all individuals involved in the conversation. Initially, three police officers are identified. Whether others are involved depends on evidence. He has also ordered the Provincial Police Region 8 to concurrently investigate whether any lower-ranking officers under the provincial commander are involved. If found, disciplinary actions will be taken immediately.
Furthermore, if the investigation finds wrongdoing at both local and central levels, the National Police Inspector General will consider disciplinary measures ranging from Deputy Provincial Police Chief to Police Commander levels. The Police Chief emphasized fairness to all parties and confirmed that the issue is personal misconduct. Since any organization can have individuals who act improperly, he urged the public to view it as an individual case and not to generalize to the entire police force.
The Police Chief also stressed that verifying the voice clip, which the Chawang Police Chief claims is AI-generated, is not difficult. He explained that even in cases where criminals shoot each other, the police can still verify and apprehend them. He assured that the investigation will be conducted straightforwardly without concerns.
Regarding opinions that the local special task force is controlled by the provincial police commander and has unchecked power to demand benefits, the Police Chief said this must be investigated. The task force consists of officers assigned to carry out official policies. However, if there are off-the-record task forces involved, legal actions—criminal or disciplinary—will be pursued if evidence of wrongdoing exists.
As for whether the special task force will be disbanded, the Police Chief said this requires careful consideration. The task force remains very useful, and disbanding it might negatively impact essential operations.
