Police have requested the court to issue an arrest warrant for 'Kan Welfare,' the shooter on the expressway, and are urgently pursuing him for prosecution due to the incident.
In the case where Mr. Anuwat Yataniyom, 34, was fatally shot on the Si Rat Expressway, police investigations revealed the suspect is Mr. Songkran, who abandoned the white Welfare vehicle with license plate 2 กผ 7778 Bangkok, used in the shooting, at a hotel in Nakhon Pathom before fleeing. The police later brought the vehicle to Prachachuen Police Station for forensic examination since last night.
Most recently, on 24 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the vehicle remained parked in front of Prachachuen Police Station, secured behind metal barriers. Police Colonel Sakdidej Kampholanuwong, superintendent of Prachachuen Police Station, said investigators have submitted a warrant request to the Criminal Court for Mr. Songkran on charges of intentional homicide, attempted murder, and firearm offenses after completing witness interviews and collecting sufficient evidence.
Meanwhile, the investigation units from Metropolitan Police Division 2 and Prachachuen Police Station are actively tracking the suspect for prosecution. Intelligence indicates the suspect planned to flee to a neighboring country, but police suspect he may be deceiving them, prompting the tracking teams to split and also monitor the southern region.
Preliminary investigations show the suspect used a 9mm firearm to shoot the victim three times. However, forensic checks found no shell casings from two of the shots in the Welfare vehicle or at the scene. This raises suspicion that if three shots were fired, evidence should exist; it is possible the suspect took two shell casings with him. The suspect and victim were strangers; the motive is believed to have arisen from a dispute while driving on the expressway before the toll booth.
However, police have not ruled out any motives, including spontaneous incidents or connections to gray-area businesses. Records show the deceased had a prior conviction for rape.
