Phatthalung Police Mobilize to Crack Down on Dek Wan Motorcycle Gang Igniting Fireworks to Defy Officers

Phatthalung city police mobilized forces to intercept over 50 “Dek Wan” motorcycle riders causing disturbances late at night, igniting fireworks to challenge and revving engines to taunt officers.

At 3:00 AM on 4 Jan 2026, officers from Phatthalung City Police Station deployed forces to control and intercept a group of “Dek Wan” causing disturbances on the Asian Highway and major roads in Phatthalung city after receiving complaints from residents about racing and loud noises during the late night hours.

The operation was directed by Pol. Col. Somprat Kannakanon, superintendent of Phatthalung City Police Station, with Lt. Pol. Anuwat Ounnimit, deputy chief of the patrol division, leading the Thunder Squad motorcycle police and patrol cars to monitor and intercept youths gathered near the Chalermprakiet Transport Intersection and surrounding areas.

Officers found about 50 “Dek Wan” motorcycles revving loudly, disturbing residents, while also mocking the police by igniting fireworks skyward to defy the authorities before fleeing along various routes, endangering other road users.

Additionally, a modified pickup truck suspected of using a firearm-like weapon to shoot into the air at intervals was spotted; however, officers were unable to apprehend the suspect during the inspection.

Meanwhile, the patrol unit detained several male and female youths riding unmodified motorcycles but exhibiting behavior consistent with illegal racing and loitering, causing disturbances. Some youths wore concealing clothing to evade checks. Officers took them for record-keeping, seized their motorcycles, and proceeded with legal action for illegal racing and causing public nuisance, summoning their guardians for notification and further procedures.

Pol. Col. Somprat Kannakanon, superintendent of Phatthalung City Police Station, stated that police have implemented strict measures to prevent and suppress illegal street racing, especially on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with continuous checkpoints to inspect vehicles without license plates, modified motorcycles, and those with loud exhausts, both day and night, to ensure peace and safety for Phatthalung residents.
