On 4 January 2026, reporters reported that at 08:30 in Amnat Charoen Province, a shocking incident took place where a son, hallucinating from methamphetamine, used a machete to cut his mother's throat. He then carried her head to a field beside their home. After the act, he roamed the village with his face covered in blood. The incident occurred at house number 224, Village 4, Non Sung Village, Na Wiang Subdistrict, Senangkhanikhom District, Amnat Charoen Province.
After receiving the report, Police Colonel Suwicha Boonchim, Chief of Senangkhanikhom Police Station, led officers to the scene. They found the body of Mrs. Soi Intanon, 71, with her throat slashed, lying dead inside the house. She wore a floral-collar shirt and black long pants. The suspect was identified as her son, Mr. Mongkol Intanon, 42. After committing the murder by cutting his mother's throat with a machete, he carried her head to the nearby field beside the house, then wandered into the village with his face covered in blood. Villagers who saw this were shocked and immediately informed the village headman. The village headman then alerted the police, who came to investigate and arrested the suspect for further questioning at Senangkhanikhom Police Station.
When interviewed, Mr. Chanchan Sangkhareuk, 59, the village headman who arrived first at the scene, told reporters that after being notified by villagers, he broadcasted an announcement for everyone to be aware before going to the crime scene with the assistant village headman. At first, he hesitated to open the door to enter the house until many villagers gathered, then he decided to enter and found the brutally beheaded body of Mrs. Soi. He immediately reported to the police to swiftly detain the suspect.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Lamyai Saengsawi, 57, a local resident, revealed that that morning she drove into the village and saw the suspect sitting by the roadside with his face and eyes covered in blood. At first, she thought someone had attacked him, so she asked what happened and if someone had beaten him to look like that. However, the suspect did not answer and looked hostile. Concerned, she quickly informed the village headman to come check the house, fearing the suspect might harm his mother, since he had a history related to drug abuse and had just completed rehabilitation.
Police Colonel Suwicha Boonchim, Chief of Senangkhanikhom Police Station, said that upon personally inspecting the scene with forensic officers, evidence was collected at the scene. They also took blood and DNA samples from the suspect for detailed examination.
