Big Tao Emphasizes Solid Evidence in Gold Bribery Case Involving Big Joke

"Big Tao" emphasized that the gold bribery case involving "Big Joke" has solid evidence. He declared working straightforwardly even though viewed as an adversary, confirmed the video clip is unedited, and disclosed evidence to help society understand.

On 7 Jan 2026 at 14:30, Police Major General Jaroonkiat Pankaew, known as "Big Tao," Deputy Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, spoke about the case in which Mr. Sanyaphatchara Samart, lawyer for Police General Surachate Hakparn or "Big Joke," former Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, submitted a letter to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) opposing the return of the gold bribery case for further police investigation. The lawyer argued that the case should proceed within the NACC without restarting the investigation.

Police Major General Jaroonkiat stated that releasing some evidence to the media on 6 Jan was done legally with no prohibitions and only represents part of the evidence. The purpose was to clarify facts for society, reduce confusion, and protect the Royal Thai Police's image. He added there is much deeper evidence yet to be disclosed, which will strengthen and complete the case file.

Regarding claims by Police General Surachate's lawyer that the police obtained evidence improperly and that video clips were edited, Police Major General Jaroonkiat affirmed all evidence has been thoroughly checked with no signs of editing. He stressed that the process of presenting evidence in court is rigorous, and the police will avoid errors on such critical matters.

On the gold issue, he confirmed that interviews were conducted with all involved, including the gold shop and recipients. The existing evidence is sufficient to prosecute Police General Surachate, and additional evidence will be collected to reinforce the case's strength.

Police Major General Jaroonkiat reiterated that the investigative team works within the law and evidence straightforwardly, without aiding or distorting the case. Although he is seen as an adversary to Police General Surachate, he affirmed working with police spirit and concern for the organization, not wanting the Royal Thai Police’s image harmed in the public eye.

Regarding Police Colonel Phakphum Pismay, a former subordinate of Police General Surachate who filed complaints in this case, Police Major General Jaroonkiat stated the team neither knew nor urged him to provide information. He confirmed that Phakphum came forward as a complainant, not a witness, and may become a defendant depending on evidence and legal proceedings.

Finally, the Deputy Commissioner praised Police Colonel Phakphum's courage in delivering evidence to police, knowing it might affect him and his family. He revealed that Phakphum is a police officer from a police family, deeply connected to the organization, and although he does not forget past loyalties, he chose to reveal the truth to society. If facing legal consequences, he is prepared to accept them so that the truth can be revealed.
