A fire broke out in a drainage pipe located beneath the Burapha Withi Expressway. Burning pipe fragments fell onto the road, nearly hitting vehicles passing by. It took about 10 minutes before the fire was fully controlled.
At 10:30 a.m. on 10 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters learned that Bang Pakong Police Station received a report of a fire in a drainage pipe under the Burapha Withi Expressway between kilometers 52 and 53 inbound toward Chonburi. The site lies at the boundary between Moo 5, Tha Kham Subdistrict, Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province, and Khlong Tamru Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi Province. The police coordinated with Tha Kham Municipality’s fire trucks to inspect the scene, where they found flames rapidly burning the drainage pipe beneath the expressway.
Some burning parts of the drainage pipe fell onto Theparak Road (Bang Na-Trat) between kilometers 52 and 53, in the express lane inbound to Chonburi. As a result, Bang Pakong Highway Police temporarily closed the traffic. Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames both below and above the expressway, taking about 10 minutes to bring the fire fully under control.
Preliminary investigation by Burapha Withi Expressway officials suggests the fire was likely caused by a cigarette butt discarded into the drainage pipe, which contained trash debris, igniting the fire quickly. Fortunately, no one was injured by the burning pipe fragments that fell to the ground below.
