Today (14 Jan 2026) at 10:00 a.m., Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the National Police Chief, chaired a meeting to review the progress of the violent situation in the southern border provinces. Attending were Police General Samran Nuamma, Assistant Police Chief for Security, Police Lieutenant General Udon Yomjaroen, Assistant Police Chief, Police Lieutenant General Piyawat Chalermsi, Commander of Region 9 Police, commanders of provincial police in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Songkhla, along with representatives from related agencies. The meeting took place at the National Police Operations Center (NPOC), Building 1, National Police Headquarters, and via teleconference.
The Commander of Region 9 Police reported that following the attacks involving arson and bombings at 11 gas stations in the southern border provinces, evidence collection and forensic investigations are underway. Authorities have detained two perpetrators and identified several others, with plans to issue arrest warrants and continue pursuing those responsible.
Regarding preventive measures, consideration will be given to establishing new protocols and operational methods incorporating technology for surveillance. Additionally, plans include forming special rapid-response teams trained to a proficient level to quickly control incidents. Security plans will be improved jointly with the military to prevent the crossing of people, weapons, and explosive devices across the border.
The National Police Chief stated that the Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, has expressed concern and emphasized the importance of intelligence, preventive measures, and investigations to bring offenders to justice and prevent further attacks in the area. Consequently, the Chief has ordered an upgrade in intelligence operations, reporting, and investigation. Security plans will be adjusted to adopt a proactive intelligence approach and preventive tactics, integrating all security agencies in the region to prevent and break the cycle of unrest.
