First Night in Prison: Pound, Peoples Party MP Candidate, Sleeps Well and Eats Normal Meal of Boiled Mixed Vegetables with Rice

The Department of Corrections spokesperson revealed that Ratchapong Soisuang, a People's Party MP candidate, slept normally during his first night in prison. He is currently undergoing a 5-day quarantine. So far, there have been no reports of party members or executives contacting the prison to request visits.

On 16 January 2026, Mr. Yutthana Nakruangsri, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections and its spokesperson, reported on the intake of detainees pending trial. At around 8:00 p.m. on 15 Jan, Bangkok Remand Prison received Mr. Ratchapong Soisuang, also known as MP Pound. The prison followed standard procedures for detainee intake as follows: Step 1, receiving the detainee included searching for prohibited items and those not allowed inside the prison, along with creating the detainee's profile. Step 2 involved health screening; the detainee reported no chronic illnesses and was mentally stable. Step 3 involved detention control, with the detainee placed in the reception ward for a 5-day quarantine from 15 to 19 Jan 2026, after which he will enter the classification process for placement in the appropriate detention ward.

Regarding his first day in prison, during the night of 15 Jan, Mr. Ratchapong was observed to sleep and rest normally with no signs of excessive or concerning stress. During the 5-day quarantine period, visits from relatives are not permitted. Additionally, there have been no reports of any requests from party members or executives to arrange visits.

Addressing concerns about any special privileges in prison related to his status as a politician and past revelations about bribery and corruption, the prison authorities confirmed that they have measures to prevent, monitor, and control all detainees to maintain order within the facility and ensure prisoners’ safety. Regarding meals, he has been served boiled mixed vegetable soup and steamed rice, which he has eaten normally.
