The Chief of Phatthalung City Police has ordered a strict crackdown on illegal firearms, offering a 1,000 baht reward per weapon seized, and has mandated decisive prosecution of offenders.
On 18 January 2026, Pol. Col. Somprat Krankanon, Chief of Phatthalung City Police, stated that Phatthalung province is home to important tourist sites including mountains, forests, fields, seas, and cultural traditions of southern Thailand. Tourist arrivals from both domestic and international visitors have been steadily increasing. To ensure that tourism in Phatthalung remains safe, enjoyable, and harmonious with nature and the environment, he has intensified efforts to uphold the province's image by enforcing strict and continuous crackdowns on illegal firearms. He personally rewards officers 1,000 baht per firearm seized. As of 16 January 2026, six firearms have been confiscated, and he has ordered strict legal proceedings against offenders.
Regarding traffic law offenders, such as those modifying vehicles improperly, lacking required equipment, or driving recklessly causing public distress, strict legal action is also enforced. He has publicly appealed to all groups not to request leniency or interfere with police prosecutions under the traffic laws. Previously, some associates attempted to persuade the police not to proceed with charges, but after he paid fines from his own funds, such requests ceased. Regarding illegal street racing by youths, legal measures have been taken, including penalties imposed on some parents.
