At 04:00 on 18 Jan 2026, Nan provincial investigation police, together with related agencies, intercepted a major drug trafficking operation, seizing over 10,000,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside a 10-wheel truck disguised with agricultural products (ginger) in Mueang Nan District.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon Yisakorn, Commander of Region 5 Police, Pol. Maj. Gen. Jitpisut Imsanguan, Chief of Investigation Region 5, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Daret Kanya, Chief of Nan Provincial Police, along with commanders and investigators from multiple units. They arrested suspect Chonnachon Songsirichai, 46, from Mae Mo District, Lampang Province, with evidence including 4 red methamphetamine pills, 40 black plastic bags containing orange methamphetamine pills stamped WY, totaling approximately 10,000,000 pills, and a white-pink HINO 10-wheel truck, license plate 81-7856 Lampang.
Investigation revealed that the truck entered Nan Province during the night of 17 Jan 2026, traveling via Ban Luang District toward Mueang Nan District before parking near the Nan Provincial Bus Terminal. Authorities then approached to inspect and found methamphetamine concealed at the back of the truck, hidden under plastic bags filled with fresh ginger.
The suspect confessed that all the methamphetamine belonged to him. He received it from a person in Sanian Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District, to deliver to Chainat Province. If successful, he would be paid 400,000 baht, sometimes via bank transfer and sometimes in cash. He admitted that this was his third time transporting methamphetamine.
Authorities charged him with possession and distribution of a Category 1 narcotic for commercial purposes, unlawful possession, drug use, and driving under the influence. The suspect and evidence were handed over to Pol. Lt. Sararn Wongchaiya, investigator at Mueang Nan Police Station, for legal proceedings.
