The police issued a directive requiring all police officers at every level to maintain neutrality during the election period. It explicitly prohibits officers from accompanying politicians, assisting in putting up campaign posters, helping candidates or vote canvassers, and using government premises for political activities.
On 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters stated that the Central Investigation Bureau published a directive from the Legal and Case Office (LCO) of the Royal Thai Police titled "Police Neutrality in the 2026 Election." It mandates all police officials to remain neutral, such as providing security for election candidates or those involved (per Police Order 38/2005), cooperating to assist and support voting rights. Additionally, commanding officers must monitor their subordinates to ensure political neutrality.
Prohibited actions include using official power to aid candidates, allowing candidates to attend meetings at official units directly or indirectly, fraternizing or intimidating opponents, presenting oneself as an influential ally, helping politicians campaign, threatening citizens to support candidates, and following politicians for campaigning purposes.
Other forbidden acts include assisting in placing campaign posters, aiding candidates or vote canvassers, using government facilities for political activities, speaking in support at political events, wearing party uniforms on government premises, campaigning while on security duty, and abusing official duties to benefit candidates.
