Pol. Maj. Gen. Kampanat, Police Chief of Division 4, confirmed plans to prosecute a gang involved in false reporting that helped the 'Grey Chinese' group escape from immigration detention and ordered the investigation to expand to include all key perpetrators.
In the case where Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpan, Deputy Police Spokesperson, revealed that Chinese authorities contacted Thai officials about detainees wanted by China who disappeared from immigration detention without explanation, one sub-lieutenant has already been dismissed. Investigation found that from 2021 to 2025, five Metropolitan Police investigators, including the dismissed sub-lieutenant, all under Division 4, released over 130 detainees who were not returned. The dismissed officer alone released more than 30 suspects with similar behavior patterns. Victims reported fraud cases and requested courts to issue warrants, then used those to retrieve detainees from immigration to prosecute before disappearing. Currently, investigations are ongoing into those claiming to be victims, groups of lawyers, brokers, and police suspected of colluding to fabricate evidence. The National Police Chief has ordered a nationwide, retrospective in-depth investigation covering the past 10 years, as previously reported.
Regarding this, at 16:00 on 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Maj. Gen. Kampanat Arunkiriroj, Police Chief of Division 4, updated on the progress of the case involving police investigators from Division 4 aiding a group of 'Grey Chinese' suspects to escape from the immigration detention room at Suan Plu. Initially, all related police case files have been sent to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Concurrently, investigations into false complainants are ongoing, pending the NACC's return of the files so that the police inquiry team can further investigate the accused group.
He confirmed that the investigation will expand to prosecute all individuals who filed false reports.
