At 14:30 on 20 January 2026, reporters received word that on Mittraphap Road between Nong Khai and Udon Thani, near the Ban Nong Song Hong intersection before the Nong Song Hong checkpoint, narcotics suppression officers pursued a drug trafficking convoy. They intercepted a white Isuzu covered pickup truck with license plate 2 ฒพ8312 Bangkok. A gunfight broke out, and officers returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect at the steering wheel. Authorities then seized 15 sacks containing more than 6 million methamphetamine pills hidden in the truck's rear. Regarding the arrest, at around 13:00, investigators from Division 1 of the Special Investigation Bureau Region 4, led by Police Colonel Sompop Kongsombat, Chief of Division 1, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Suebwong Sudnongbua, Deputy Chief of Division 1, along with other officers, received a tip from an informant about illicit drug trafficking in Nong Khai Province destined for the country's interior. They proceeded to investigate.
They spotted a suspicious vehicle traveling on Mittraphap Road near the Nong Song Hong intersection in Nong Khai. When officers signaled the driver to stop and identify himself, the driver refused and opened fire. Two officers were wounded, and the suspect was shot dead in the ensuing gunfight.

Initial examination revealed 15 sacks containing over 6 million methamphetamine pills hidden inside the white Isuzu covered pickup truck with license plate ฒพ 8312 Bangkok.
