
Authorities have mobilized over 120 personnel to pursue a Burmese man who shot a Mae Sot police sergeant during a gun sting operation. Recent leads reveal the suspect discarded the firearm used in the crime along with a cloak in a sugarcane field before fleeing toward the border near the KK Park casino.
At 14:00 on 21 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters from Mae Sot District, Tak Province, reported that earlier today, police from Region 6 investigation unit, Mae Sot Police Station, Tak Provincial Police, and Border Patrol Police Unit 346, totaling over 120 officers with K9 units, spread out to surround a location believed to harbor the Burmese suspect, Nai Ny Lin Aung. He allegedly shot Sergeant Sek San Kanka, Patrol Unit Leader at Mae Sot Police Station, who was seriously injured during a sting operation to buy a firearm and then fled.
Most recently, officers from Border Patrol Police Unit 346 and K9 units found a black 9mm handgun and a black hooded cloak, reportedly worn during the offense, discarded in a sugarcane field behind a factory in Mae Ku Subdistrict, Mae Sot District.
As for Nai Ny Lin Aung, authorities have not located him yet but believe he fled toward the border to cross into Myanmar. At the Mae Ku Mai Tha Sung border area, Mae Ku Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, opposite is the KK Park casino. Authorities continue to deploy forces to seal off the area and pursue the suspect to bring him to justice.
