
Lopburi provincial investigators and Police 191 intercepted a 10-wheel truck carrying a large shipment of 5 million methamphetamine pills concealed inside sacks of ginger. The driver admitted he transported the drugs from the northern region to deliver to customers in Lopburi Province. He tried to evade police but lost control and crashed into a canal.
At 13:30 on 22 January 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Prinya Chondan, Deputy Investigation Officer at Ban Boek Police Station, Lopburi, was notified of a 10-wheel truck accident where the vehicle fell into an irrigation canal near the weir in Village No. 13, Hua Samrong Subdistrict, Tha Wung District, Lopburi. He went to the scene along with Police Major General Yanyong Santiprichawat, Commander of Lopburi Provincial Police, and Mr. Pratya Pepatang, Deputy Governor of Lopburi Province.
At the scene, a white Hino 10-wheel truck, license plate 70-4780 Mahasarakham, was overturned in the canal near the weir. Police recovered a large black bag wrapped around a white sack from the vehicle. Upon inspection, it contained orange methamphetamine pills packed inside sacks, along with some fresh ginger. Preliminary checks revealed 20 sacks of methamphetamine, each containing 200,000 pills, totaling 5 million pills.
Police arrested Mr. Somjit Saenwong, 41, from Mahasarakham Province, the driver of the truck. He confessed to transporting the methamphetamine from a northern province to deliver to customers near the location. While turning onto the canal road between Phrom Buri and Hua Samrong, Police 191, military intelligence, and Lopburi Provincial Police detectives pursued him. Upon realizing this, he attempted to flee, but a dump truck blocked the road, and while trying to overtake, he lost control and the truck fell into the canal, leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, forensic officers from Lopburi Provincial Police arrived to collect evidence and conduct an examination. Investigations are ongoing to expand the case further.
