The case involves "Big Joke," Police General Surachate Hakparn, former Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, who assigned lawyers to file charges against Police Major General Jaroonkiat Pankaew, Deputy Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, Police Major General Prasong Chalermpan, Commander of the Anti-Corruption Division, and the investigative team for the gold bribery case at the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases. The charges are under Section 157, accusing officials of wrongful acts or neglect of duty causing damage, as previously reported.
On 22 Jan 2026 GMT+7 in Chiang Mai, Police Major General Jaroonkiat Pankaew, Deputy Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, commented on the matter, saying he was aware of the news about the filing against the investigative team, and he is not worried. He affirmed it is the accused's right to take this action and that he will continue working according to regulations and the law without being unsettled by this issue.
He added that the accused’s actions represent an attempt to fight using legal technicalities but without considering the facts and evidence. This tactic has been consistently used by the accused.
